JJ Brothers Electrical & Air supplies and completes air conditioning installation across the Redcliffe Peninsula, Moreton Bay and Brisbane. 01 Choosing a system

The right system for the space

An air conditioner that's too small runs flat out and never quite keeps up; one that's too big costs more than it needs to. The right capacity depends on the room or area you're cooling, the way it faces, ceiling height, insulation, and how much glass there is.

We look at those details, along with where the indoor and outdoor units can sensibly go, before recommending a system. Placement matters as much as capacity โ€” it affects airflow, noise, drainage and how neat the finished install looks on your wall.

As licensed electricians, we also look after the electrical side: confirming your switchboard can support the new system and providing a suitable circuit where one is required. If the board isn't up to it, we'll explain the switchboard options first.

02 System types

Split, multi-split or ducted

Each type suits a different kind of space. We'll recommend one once we understand the property and how you use it.

01

Split systems

One indoor unit connected to one outdoor unit. The most common choice for bedrooms, living areas and single open-plan spaces.

02

Multi-split systems

Several indoor units running from a single outdoor unit โ€” useful when you want to cool a few rooms but have limited space outside.

03

Ducted systems

A central unit in the roof space delivers air through ducts and ceiling vents, with the option to zone different parts of the home.

04

Back-to-back installs

Where the indoor unit sits on an external wall directly behind the outdoor unit, the pipe run is short and the install stays neat.

05

Electrical supply

We confirm your switchboard has capacity for the new system and install a suitable circuit where one is required.

06

Homes & businesses

Air conditioning for houses, units, offices and shops, with each system matched to the space and how it's used.

03 How it works

Straightforward from start to finish

We keep the process clear and communicate at every stage, from your first enquiry through to testing and documentation.

01

Tell us about the space

Let us know which rooms you want to cool, and send photos of the area, the outside wall and your switchboard if you can.

02

Assessment

We confirm sizing, indoor and outdoor unit locations and the electrical requirements, arranging a site visit where needed.

03

Quote & booking

You receive a detailed quote for the system and installation. Once it's approved, we book in an installation date.

04

Install & test

Units are mounted, piped, drained and connected, then the system is tested and the area cleaned up.

04 Questions

Common questions answered

What size air conditioner do I need?

It depends on the space rather than a single rule of thumb. Room size is the starting point, but ceiling height, insulation, the direction the room faces and the amount of glass all change the capacity you need. We assess those details before recommending a system, so it isn't undersized or oversized.

Should I choose a split system or ducted air conditioning?

Split systems suit individual rooms or open-plan areas and are generally simpler to install. Ducted systems suit whole-home comfort with a cleaner look, but need adequate roof space and involve more installation work. Multi-split sits in between โ€” several rooms, one outdoor unit. The best option depends on your home and how you use it.

Do I need an electrician to install air conditioning?

Yes โ€” the electrical connection must be done by a licensed electrician. Because we're a licensed electrical contractor, the electrical work and the air-conditioning installation are handled together rather than by two separate trades.

Where should the outdoor unit go?

Somewhere with good airflow, a solid base or bracket, room for access, and consideration for noise near bedrooms and neighbours. Keeping the pipe run between the indoor and outdoor units reasonably short also helps. We'll suggest the best position when we assess the site.

Can air conditioning be added during a renovation or new build?

Yes, and it's the easiest time to do it. Pipe runs, drainage and electrical provisions can be planned in before walls and ceilings are closed up โ€” see our new builds and renovations work.
